What types of payments are acceptable?

The screening fee is due at the time of the screen. Group payments may be paid in full at the time of the screen or at each group session. Justice Services accepts cash, money order as well as VISA and Master Card (at screening time).

Why do people in the same program have a different number of sessions required?

An assessment is done at the time of referral, sometimes called the screening. Based on objective criteria and testing instruments, the therapist assigns a required number of group sessions. The number of sessions required is based on the individual circumstances of each case.

Why isn't my partner or significant other required to attend the program?

The court has no jurisdiction over the victims of crimes. Therefore, the only person who can be ordered or offered the opportunity to attend a program is the individual who was arrested. Justice Services does offer free Victim services to victims of violent crimes and their children. Please call Justice Services' nearest office for a listing of these “FREE” Victim services.

What are Justice Services' Program requirements?

Every person who is referred to Justice Services begins with an in-depth assessment. Each program requires a different number of group sessions, therefore, the fees for the programs are also different. Most courts give the defendant a brochure explaining the program requirements at the time of referral. The program requirements will be explained in detail at the time of the screening/assessment. For further clarification, the client may call the nearest Justice Services' office.

Why is AA, CA, NA, etc. assigned and included in the treatment plan?

A Substance Abuse assessment is included in every assessment at Justice Services. If the counselor determines that the client has a substance abuse problem, assignment to substance abuse treatment, AA, CA, NA will be included in the treatment plan and must be completed, as well as the program group sessions, before the client can successfully complete the program and receive a "Compliance Certificate" for the court.

What is a screening?

The screening is the Justice Services' initial assessment that must be done before a client can begin program participation, treatment groups, or electronic monitoring. A pencil and paper test will be given for some programs. All paperwork and program requirements will be explained in detail. Attendance policy, agreement for program participation, releases of information, treatment plans, fee requirements and program or group rules will be explained and all client questions answered. Referrals can be made to other agencies and other services when appropriate.

Are programs provided in languages other than English?

Yes, Justice Services provides all programs in both English and Spanish and Justice Services has both clerical and therapeutic Spanish-speaking staff available at all their sites. Referrals will be made for other languages or arrangement can be made for an interpreter.

What are the fees for the programs?

The fees are determined by the service provided and by the court that makes the referral. Justice Services' fees are very competitive and are one of the most reasonable in Maricopa County. Discounts are frequently given for immediate scheduling of screenings, intakes and classes. Please call for a listing of all program fees.

What happens if I don't have my payment for services?

Responsibility and accountability form the cornerstone of Justice Services' programs. Payment of program fees is the responsibility of the client. Justice Services provides all services at a very reasonable cost.

May I do more than one class per week?

Typically, clients attend one group per week unless assigned to an “intensive” program for domestic violence or substance abuse, in which case more than one group per week is required. If your schedule requires attendance once a week, you will be scheduled into a group that meets weekly at the same time, same location, with the same regularly scheduled attendees.

How many absences can I have?

Regular attendance is mandatory. The court has referred you into an educational/ therapeutic setting in lieu of jail. The expectation of the court is that you will attend your weekly group sessions without absences. Excessive absences will require having to return to court to appear before the judge.

What are the client's responsibilities while attending Justice Services' programs?

The client must comply with all court requirements such as time frames and additional court dates. Regular attendance, payment of all fees, appropriate behavior, is required with all staff and fellow clients. Clients are required to actively participate in the group process. No alcohol or drug use is allowed during any of Justice Services' programs.
